Yaz - Only You - カバーバージョンの方が売れちゃった例
今日は、ちょっと音楽ネタです。
allmusic.com のカテゴリーだと、New Wave とか、Synth Pop ということになっています。たぶん、しらないでしょうね～(笑)
このバンドの代表曲として、「Only You」という曲があります。
問題は…この曲は、カバーの方が有名で、おそらくご存じではないかと…
Flying Picketsによるアカペラバージョンは、UKでナンバーワンにもなっています（一部で、恋する惑星のサントラにも使われているという意見あるんだけど、そうだっけか？）
この曲は、カバーの方が有名になっちゃったという良い例です。
私は、とてもオリジナルが好きなんです。ラジオとかでも、Flying Picketsのカバーバージョンがオリジナルだという感じでかけられるんで、ちょっと悲しいです。むろん、このバージョンも悪くないんですが、良くわかんないんですけど、オリジナルとくらべると平坦。歌詞も、好きなんですよね。
昔からそうなんですけど、やっぱりカバーがオリジナルを越えることも、本人のre-takeがオリジナルを越えることも、そうそうないんじゃないかと思ったりします…もっとも、単に、聞きなれていて思い込みが強いからかもしれませんけど、ビートとか、ためとか、（こぶしとか。。）、オリジナルの良さってあると思うのですよね。そこに思い入れがあると、サントラが流行るのはちょっと辛いものがあります。
さて、そんなこんなで、ちょっとGoogleしていたら、カバーソングの一覧集めているサイトを見つけました。なかなかおもしろいです。このサイトは日本語です。
是非、Yazooのオリジナルも聞いてみてください。ちなみに、私は、Synth Popが好きなので、このアルバムの曲はわりとどれも好きですが、この曲以外は一般受けしずらいと思います(笑)。ちなみに、Yazは、1999年にOnly Youをリレコしてますが、私が好きなのは、オリジナル版です（笑）
PS. iTunes for Windows、4.2 出てますね。
